Mac the Christmas Dog.Mixed Chow, Australian Shepherd and who-knows-what-else. Excellent companion and great on pastoral visits. Effective at rounding up small children. At herding cats, not so good. Gentle. Stubborn to a fault.
Found under a holly bush outside our house during Advent, 1994.
Died third day of Christmas (Feast of St. John), 2008.
A very good dog.

Cats can't be herded, so that was surely not Mac's fault. And I prefer to think of stubborn as a good thing. Gredel and Laika and all the good cats and dogs surely welcomed Mac with loving paws and treats a plenty for the road ahead.
